Despite Stalin, it is a masterpiece of Dmitri Shostakovich.
I really had never heard of this piece and hadn't thought of Bridge in years. Then they played the Moonlight section on the radio this evening. Beautiful!
John Barbirolli always thought of himself as a cockney - great bloke.
Beethoven as a younger man seemed to be at odds with his older self but this is on the money considered unplayable at the time 🤣
Civilization 4
February 26th, 1972
This is not a well-known piece, but it deserves a place in the front rank of noteworthy Mass settings.
A rather traditional 1st mvmnt.2nd mvmnt, wow! 3rd mvmnt, wow !
Fabulous. An unusual combination that works nicely. A Discovery. Great sound and performance. It's Ponce so you know it's great.
Me no musician, can guess it is extremely difficult to play even for seasoned orchestra members. Could this be one of the greatest pieces of music of the XX century? Experts, please say...
Any century K. Emerson might have been born, XVIII or XIX, he would have still written this.
Wonderful piece!
“In Stanford's music the sense of style, the sense of beauty, the feeling of a great tradition is never absent. His music is in the best sense of the word Victorian, that is to say it is the musical counterpart of the art of Tennyson, Watts and Matthew Arnold” - Ralph Vaughn Williams. I do not know that much about Tennyson and Watts (6th Sym) but I do know about Arnold pretty well. I had to read some of his work's in my studies years back; Dover Beach is by far my favorite poem. It is on my desk. Stanford’s 7 symphonies definitely are that. They require repetition in listening. Pretty good work. I like his 2nd, 3rd, 6th & 7th the best.
Gemma sottovalutata
That short falling scale comes up a lot in his music. I wonder if it's important to him?

Good but old. And too loud. Where is the recording from Herreweghe? Does it exist? I do love the slow speed of the choral!

disgusting tribute to a HATEFUL monster
Não funcionou. Matou o espírito barroco.
Thank you. First time hearing this recording. Harold Smiley Davis, the drummer.

I like it
ELP was my first concert in 73 always loved it. Pictures at exhibition great stuff written in 1874. ELP did it justice. 👍

Encore un magnfique concerto romantique, trop peu joué, trop peu connu !...

Epic.
Wonderful, it would worth buying it all, it is great opus❤
I keep 2 piano concerto lists: one for favorite piano concerts, and another for favorite emotional piano concerts. This one was going into the favorite list and then I decided it was too dramatic for that list.
If you like Arthur Bliss' "Color Symphony ", you will surely enjoy this symphony as well.
hello future tmea all staters 🤭🤭
